Psychotherapy
- Today we are learning more and more that so-called "mental" disorders
have deep connections to the body, and often to the past. Early relational
experiences shape brain development, often setting the stage for later
resilience or vulnerability not only to emotional, but to physical health
problems. Increased understanding of the body and brain and the ways they
connect has resulted in many new, effective ways of treating psychological
problems. Dr. Lennert has training in EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy,
Clinical Hypnosis (an older but still valuable technique) and Infant-Toddler
Mental Health.
- Infant and Toddler
Mental Health
- Many people believe that
infants and toddlers are too young to have emotional problems, or, if they have
problems, are too young to treat. This is unfortunate, because during the first
few years of life, appropriate treatment is more effective, and requires less
effort, than at any other time of life.

EMDR
-
This technique uses eye movements
(or other types of bilateral stimulation) to rapidly treat the effects of
traumatic experiences.
-
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
-
This psychotherapy model brings
the body into talk therapy through mindfulness, body awareness, and
movement.
-
Clinical Hypnosis
-
Hypnosis can be a useful
treatment for fears (such as dentists or flying) and habits (such as smoking
or overeating). It is also useful as a part of talk therapy, or to enhance
performance.
- Psychological Assessment
- Assessment can help identify learning or attention difficulties,
psychological disorders, or the source/function of behavior problems
