What is Irlen Syndrome?Irlen Syndrome is a visual processing disorder that is estimated to affect 12-14% of the general population. About 45% of people with learning disabilities have been found to have Irlen Syndrome as a contributing factor. Irlen Syndrome can also cause light sensitivity, poor depth perception, headaches, eyestrain, fatigue, and migraines, attention or anxiety symptoms. Some individuals with autism also have Irlen Syndrome. Irlen Syndrome is treated using colored overlays for reading. For problems that extend beyond reading difficulties, colored filters used as eyeglasses can provide benefits. The colors are selected through a careful diagnostic process. Colored filters that are not right for you will not help, and may cause eyestrain. To find out more, or to complete a questionnaire to decide whether you might benefit from screening, visit the Irlen website (www.irlen.com) |
